Description
The 1973 – 1987 Chevy truck is a timeless platform, especially now that you can essentially build most of these trucks with new parts. Beautiful classic lines and timeless styling make it a staple. In modern pro-touring world, you can almost build these cars from scratch with 100% new parts. That’s amazing considering these trucks have been out of production for 45+ years.
The trucks have a lot of things going for it when it comes to cooling options. For starters, you can fit just about any motor and accessory drive, including the Vintage Air and March serpentine systems, without having to get creative with making it all fit.
To make everything fit with your Chevy and billet accessory drive, we specially configure the fans on that model to clear the trouble spots that cause interference problems on big blocks. Typically the power steering pump and the A/C compressor with serpentine systems.
This radiator makes swapping to a LSX or LTX motor a breeze. With the correct size hose connections and the steam vent port properly integrated, you'll reap the benefits of modern LSX or LTX engines.
For your LSX/LTX swap, this radiator is setup with both hose connections on the passenger side. Not only does it make running the hoses much cleaner, but the radiator is configured as double-pass setup. Which improves the cooling effectiveness by about 10% with a OEM water pump. Or 20% with an aftermarket high-flow electric pump.
For higher horsepower applications, use our 1000 horsepower capable radiator, part number RAD-9185-BADASS-LSX.
Features:
– 2-rows of 1″ cooling tubes
– Cooling power up to 700HP
– Dual 12″ HPX fans for a total 3400 CFM

– Guaranteed to cool and guaranteed you'll be 700% elated with your new cooling setup.
For fan control, use our RH-02 Wiring Harness. It allows you to run the fans at both and a low speed versus just an ON/OFF setting.
The RH-02 Wiring Harness is also great for v-belt cars with lower powered alternators. It will make sure your alternator isn’t hammered hard when the high powered fans go to work to cool your engine down.
Note: There are two different radiators used in these trucks, that look very similar, yet are very different. This radiator for trucks that use the tall radiator that is 20-3/4″ tall overall. Use our part number RAD-9161-LSX for 1973 – 1987 Chevy/GMC trucks that use the shorter 18-3/4″ overall height radiator.
The short radiator is 18-3/4″ high (RAD-9161-LSX) and this one, the taller radiator (RAD-9185-LSX) is 20-3/4″ high. The taller radiator is more commonly found in the 3/4 ton trucks, but was also used in the 1/2 trucks.
